Creative Nonfiction Essay Writing Contest

Have you ever wanted to tell your true story unabashedly behind the so-called disguise of fiction? Do you write independently or professionally as a journalist or reviewer only to feel discouraged by the impersonal objectivity required through the exclusion of the word, "I"?

Could you even begin to describe "creative nonfiction"?

Well, this summer, Target Audience Magazine is back in production and gearing up to help promote independent writers, artists and musicians in finding both exposure and resources for information.

This contest is open to anyone at all with a story to share loosely themed about independence. Creative nonfiction is an unapologetically confusing genre where journalists can "tell the whole truth" with the intriguing embellishments desired.

As a combination of reporting, your basic "what I did on my summer vacation" essay, and self-reflection, this style of writing allows for a touch of critical analysis. The kind of essay one writes in a drunken stupor of consciousness only to re-read and uncover some epiphany of soul. This type of memoir will mix the historical importance of a true event with the informal language more often found in fiction stories than in journalism.

Awaken the Gonzo in yourself and submit an original, unpublished, creative non-fiction essay involving some aspect of "independence". Deadline is July 4, 2009 (makes sense, doesn't it?)

There is no word limit, but please be concise as we anticipate publishing about 5 or 6 pages. All essays must be submitted double-spaced in font size 12 and mailed with a check for $5.00 to:

Ellen Eldridge
Attn: Creative Non-fiction contest
301 Lisa Lane
Acworth, GA 30102

One winner will be selected to receive a check for $50.00 and a strong urge to support independent creativity along with publication in our Summer 2009 PDF issue (to be released in August) and on the website at www.TargetAudienceMagazine.com

Entries will not be returned and all authors retain all copyright on material as we solely wish to help promote the writers. We ask the essays be unpublished before our contest, but the author retains the right to re-publish at any time after the Summer 2009 issue posts.
