Fall 2009 Featured Poet: Pat Paul Jammernegg
Pat Paul Jammernegg – the It-pet
is a poet,
a politically praying soul-(de)picturer,
a permanently processing project.
“I bicker over language. Therefore I philosophize about it, taking after constructivists who have triumphantly foundered before me.
Thus by my very defined nature I cannot speak. Least of all about myself” (Pat Paul Jammernegg).
Paul’s writing links directly to its exterior, though in principle its context is a standalone entity. But beyond that his poetry relates to other means
of expression and impression as well - and vice versa.
E.g. he dances interpretively, devotedly experiments with photography, music/voice/sound production and editing, and is in a love-hate relationship
with his studies of politics und philosophy at a correspondence university. All these elements correlate among themselves; interchangeably, yet not
redundantly.
Just as “the private is political” (Emma Goldman), the natural is entitled to be artificial.
This is where the It-pet is born.

achievements. The reign of an ‚It girl’ is usually temporary;”
If you have it, you have nothing (nameable by means of what a current nomenclature provides); nonetheless you are.
Postmodern individualism is an It-individualism. All of us are to portray ourselves as unique (and at best condensed), on condition that the
respective singularity is being assembled from default modules.
The term “pet” refers to a potential hope for a potential being, which, despite all umbrella terms, is yet able to subsist as an identifiable being.
Socialized, but not to be tamed.
“Our awareness of awareness goes hand in hand with exhibitionism, this severe compulsion to express what is recognized up to exhaustion.
‘Up to exhaustion’ does not equal ‘exhaustive’.
Because of that I will never stop trying to talk, just as I have never commenced talking.
I started to speak. As a 6 year old I said I wanted to become a writer” (Pat Paul Jammernegg).
In Paul’s poetic language text speaks for itself. There is no need to look for the poet neither behind nor beside what comes in black and white.
He interprets and transcends himself into any of the words used, and their order, comes obvious and dissolves in them, and hence is unavailable as a
subject to interpretation. Written text unbolts to what it is: a confined but principally open space to the reader.

breathe your piece parts in
breathe yourself out
welcome them at your blending
plunge into the cavern
between two irrational figures
drop down, fall on
to where there is no other side
heaven opens up locked and shuttered

make a point, but do not tie it down
draw a line that does not segregate
straights simulate a natural pending
one time round the world

then catch a glimpse of where you are

Halloween
serene migraine, giddy pitch, scrape the scorn
eye-sized prize sliced, pass the trigger on
semitone monotony, sci-fi lobotomy
introspection, chain’s reaction
boo! There is no clue
it’s you
now you are it who keeps up monsters
stretch bank pupil blacks you out
be tricked, stand trial
cheat yourself, case-denial
gauzy voices, cosy choices
cryptic cruxes make you scout
silence the increase of noises
amplifying warning shots
small ads, snuffling breath of hints
not broad enough when nightmare knocks
time is passing?
stop the clocks
