He's Got, "Half of My Heart" John Mayer at Phillips Arena, Atlanta 3-17-10
Although his choices in stories are typically disturbing and better kept to himself, there is depth to what he sings. Mayer's March 17th
performance at Phillips Arena in the city of Atlanta, which he frequently refers to as home, was mind blowing. Electrifying and passionate on stage,
never a dull moment and a classic staple in music history, Mayer captivated and paralyzed with the first strum.
I can remember a time before the Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston sagas when he was civil in commentary, but not nearly as heart revealing in
words. Were his very public romantic endeavors as scarring as he claims, or is he just that good at dumping words onto a page accompanied by powerhouse
rifts and chords?
His musicality is undeniable and his charm is irresistible; it is hard not to love him. The tour titled after his most recent album
Battle Studies is fun and full of zest. The album itself is fun to sing along and bop your head to, but it was with his Continuum that he
placed himself into the league of the guitar gods.
When you listen to him play, you become involved with him emotionally. It is a love affair that through time evolves, consumes and grows deeper and
deeper. His paper laid out words pierce, and with his heart and soul, I am convinced there is humanity and compassion buried inside the outer shell of
the playboy man we are all so familiar with. Mayer is contagious; once he's in, he stays there.
