Weapons Of Pleasure: Selt-Titled

San Francisco Bay Area band Weapons of Pleasure bring a nice slice of punk/new wave on its new self titled E.P. “Bring Your Pleasure” features a nice grooving bass line quietly backed by a thin guitar sound, recalling mid period TSOL. The vocals of Reno and Vanessa make for a sharp contrast that complements the song’s quirkiness. The hard hitting “Daredevil” was featured in the 2006 film “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer” and this writer cannot help but wonder how this single did not bring this band some exposure. It is a hard rocking tune with some dirty guitars and swirling solos over a thunderous drum beat. Weapons of Pleasure are not necessarily an innovative band, but the group deserves kudos for taking a fresh take on two genres of music where other bands have failed. Whereas some bands are too punk for the new wave crowd or too new wave for the punk crowd, Weapons of Pleasure navigate its ways through both genres and find that balance. This combination is made perfectly evident on the track “Now You See It”. The slightly distorted guitars and off in the distance solos of A.J. and Reno meld with the sloppy yet precise drumming of Jeff, which proves how tight this band is. Weapons of Pleasure are definitely worth a listen for any fan of good rock music. Unlike bands that stay pigeon hold into one genre, or sub-genre, Weapons of Pleasure are able to branch out and do so seamlessly. Check them out at http://www.weaponsofpleasure.com
