Dropkick Murphys Live On Lansdowne Boston MA
released 3-16-10

Spending St. Patrick's Day tearing up the bars in Boston might sound like a great way to spend the merriest of all holidays, but if it causes you to miss out on one of the infamous St. Patty's Day celebrations hosted by Massachusetts' own Dropkick Murphys, you might kick yourself in the morning. If you can stand up, that is.

If lifting your head the next day sounds too taxing, there is one out - the Irish-American punk rockers just released their second live album, Live on Lansdowne, Boston MA recorded at the House of Blues, and it nearly captures the raw, drunken revelry of their live shows stomp for stomp. Recorded over the span of seven shows on six nights last year, from the traditional Irish folk song "Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye" to the crowd favorite "Forever," the 20 tracks on the record and accompanying DVD somehow manages to exude the energy of a holiday celebration in the smallest, most intimate pub with your best friends and all the Guinness you can drink. It can't be easy to bring that kind of camaraderie to such a large place, but it's hard to imagine these shows not forming a few bonds of lifelong friendship.

And even though it's in the same spirit, it's not a re-creation of their first live record, 2002's Live on St. Patrick's Day from Boston MA. The new record features 19 different tracks, plus an appearance by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones on "I'm Shipping Up To Boston." It's not better than the live show, but it is more fun than should be allowed on any record. So if you can't make it to Boston for St. Patty's Day, let Live on Lansdowne bring it as close as possible to you. Get yours through the website: http://www.dropkickmurphys.com/
